Founded in Los Angeles in 2006, TOMS began with a simple belief: that a single pair of shoes could make a meaningful difference - using business to improve lives. Inspired by traditional Alpargata shoes worn in Argentina, our founder reimagined this classic espadrille for a modern world: a comfortable slip on, designed for everyday life. 

Blending comfort and style with purpose, the TOMS Alpargata quickly became a symbol of thoughtful, people‑first design.

From a sketch to a global movement

Launched from a Venice Beach apartment in California, TOMS started with one design, one idea and one clear purpose. Founder Blake Mycoskie introduced the original One for One® giving model, where every pair of shoes purchased helped support a child in need. 

That same year, the first giving trip to Argentina delivered 10,000 pairs of shoes to the children who inspired it all. What began as a sketch soon became a movement that connected people, communities and cultures.
